Public holidays
The Organisation of Working Time Act 1997, provides for nine public holidays. They are: New Year’s Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Easter Monday, the first Monday in May, the first Monday in June, the first Monday in August, the last Monday in October, Christmas Day and Saint Stephen’s Day. Although it is not a public holiday, some Fórsa members get Good Friday off. In respect of each public holiday, an employee is entitled to:
- A paid day off on the holiday, or
- A paid day off within a month, or
- An extra day’s annual leave, or
- An extra day’s pay, as the employer may decide.
